Under the hood

How I know before you do when something breaks

There are two ways to find out your website is down. Someone rings you, fed up, because they could not book or buy. Or a quiet system tells you first, while there is still time to fix it before anyone notices. The second one is the whole job, and most small setups simply do not have it.

It looks fine from where you sit

One person, one page, no idea.

The trouble with a website is that it looks fine from where you sit. Your page loads, so all must be well. But you are one person, on one connection, looking at one page. You have no idea whether the booking form is quietly failing, whether the payment step broke overnight, or whether the whole thing has been off for three hours while you were up a ladder.

So we watch it for you

From the outside, the way a visitor arrives.

So we watch it, so you do not have to.

Something checks the sites on a schedule, from the outside, the way a real visitor turns up. Not just "did the front page load" but "is the thing that actually matters still working." If a site stops answering, or starts answering wrongly, that raises a flag fast, instead of a customer being the alarm.

Email counts too

Sent, delivered and opened are three different things.

We watch email too, which catches people out. When your site sends something that matters, a booking confirmation, an enquiry, a receipt, knowing it was sent is not enough. Sent, delivered, and actually opened are three different things. So we track the important ones through to delivery, and flag any that landed but were never opened, because an unopened confirmation is often the first sign it quietly went to junk. I learned that the hard way, and there is a separate piece on it.

One plain screen

Smoke alarms for the things that would ruin your day.

It all lands on one plain screen that tells the truth: what is up, what is behind, what wants a look. No wall of graphs for the sake of it. Just the handful of things that would actually ruin your day, watched all the time, so the first to know is me and not you.

None of this is glamorous. It is smoke alarms. You never give them a thought until the one time they earn their keep, and by then it is far too late to nip out and buy one.

We keep an eye on it so you do not have to

If you would rather the first to know your site is down was us, not one of your customers, that is what we do.
